THIS TUESDAY THE SPANISH WILL RECOGNISE THE JIHADIST “PALESTINE” REPEATING 1492 EXPULSION OF THE JEWS

BURNING OF THE JEWS IN SPAIN

This coming Tuesday the present denizens of Spain, namely PP, PSOE (Labour), IU (Stalinists) and others including Podemos are going to do a repeat of the Alhambra Decree.

This was also the Edict of Expulsión. There are very few Jews in Spain or my own native Ireland today to expel. But there is no question about the hatred which these ruling Catholic and Leftist elites have for Jews through their hatred for the Jewish Homeland.

This week we will be watching on our blog this shameful event in the history of Spain

(from Wikipedia.com)

A signed copy of the Edict of Expulsion

The king and queen issued the Alhambra Decree less than three months after the surrender of Granada. This was primarily a decision of Isabella, not her husband Fernando. That her confessor had just changed from the tolerant Hernando de Talavera  to the very intolerant Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros  suggests that Cisneros may well have had a role in Isabel’s decision.[10]  In it, Jews were accused of trying “to subvert their holy Catholic faith and trying to draw faithful Christians away from their beliefs.” These measures were not new in Europe.[11]

Some Jews were only given four months and ordered to convert to Christianity or leave the country. Under the edict, Jews were promised royal “protection and security” for the effective three-month window before the deadline. They were permitted to take their belongings with them – except “gold or silver or minted money”.[citation needed ]

The punishment for any Jew who did not convert or leave by the deadline was death without trial .[1]  The punishment for non-Jew who sheltered or hid Jews was the confiscation of all belongings and hereditary privileges.

So why does 4international insist that the parliamentary decisión of the Spanish this coming Tuesday is a continuation of the Alhanbra Decree … well it because they are voting for “Palestine” which was never Heard of before 1973.

It was then that the ARABS, not PALESTINIANS, decided that to get rid of Israel from THEIR área, they would play the Palestinian card.

So they organise the Palestine State overlooking Ben Gurion Aorport and all else. Does that mean peace? Sure about that?

What happens though if the rockets start raining down on Israel from the high ground of Judea and Samaria. Or if roads in the nearby áreas of Israel are having bombs laid, and a thousand other things to make life imposible for Jews, so they will all leave.

Will the Spanish do anything about that? That is a joke! The Spanish cannot even solve 70 per cent Spanish youth unenployment!!!

MARTIN SHERMAN’S ARTICLE…THE “PARLIAMENTARY ROAD” HAS LED JEWS INTO THIS TRAP

stabbings of Jews last week in Jerusalem…when will it ever end?

Yes the situation facing Jews internationally, facing Jews in Israel, and facing Israel as a Jewish state is indeed ultra severe.

The British parlaiment attacks Jews and Israel by voting in Parliament for Palestine. The Swedes vote for Palestine. The new head of the EU taking Ashtons place visits Israel and quizzes Jews about their conduct and devotes herself to Palestine as her own country is wrecked by Muslim immigration. In my own neck of the woods a Jewish man called Martin Nathan opens up his radio station to a David Icke associate with direct line to Gilad Atzmon. The first man to ring in with money to a “Richie Allen” crowdfunder for that is a Jewish man called Jack Nusbaum. In the past week that tormentor of the great and noble Serb people Joseph Liberman visits Israel and spouts garbage about being a “Mensch”. Jews grovel at the feet of this tormentor of the noble Serbs. I read on a patriotic paper that Jews who are settlers are stopped by the Israeli pólice and given a hard time, even trying to get them to spy on their brothers. By the way one good thing in all of this the paper did not call them settlers but rightly called them NATIONALISTS. That is so important.

The Israeli “Parliamentary Road” has led the Jews of the world into a terible trap. that is the main problem. This is a great analysis but he leaves this out. Martin does not get to the kernel of the problem at all. The problem is an overall strategic one. I cannot write further on this but I reprint Martin’s article on my blog as a record and as a source of enlightenment and eventual discussion on an organized basis. Thanks.

We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering. – Winston Churchill, in first speech to the House of Commons as prime minister, May 13, 1940

A military defeat of Israel would mean the physical extinction of a large part of its population and the political elimination of the Jewish state… Nor does this reflect a historical trauma…To lose a single war is to lose everything…

– Yigal Allon, then foreign minister, in Foreign Affairs, October 1976

This is not an article for those of weak stomach. It is not for those who wish to be reassured that, in the end, things will be “okay.” It offers no glimmer of optimism, nor any comforting prospect of some happy ending.

Indeed, if the Jews are to preserve their political sovereignty, all it bodes for the foreseeable future is one of Churchillian “blood, toil, tears and sweat.”

A perfect storm brewing

A perfect storm is brewing for Israel. On virtually every front, ominous clouds are gathering, and should the menacing maelstroms they portend hit together, it is far from certain that the Jewish state will survive the destructiveness of their combined impact.

Since I began writing this Into the Fray series in mid- 2011, I have warned repeatedly of the perils of the government’s policy of counterproductive compromises and concessions. I cautioned that this “cavalcade of capitulation” will elicit nothing from our adversaries other than demands for more – and more far-reaching – concessions, as indeed it has.

In my column of December 2, 2011, I wrote: “By adopting a policy of continually trying to avoid confrontations in which it can prevail, Israel may eventually find itself forced to engage in a confrontation in which it cannot.”

Precisely such a perilous predicament is now beginning to develop before our eyes.

Across every border Israel shares with its Arab neighbors, within its own borders, and far removed from them, a formidable range of threats – from damaging economic sanctions and international isolation, through murderous terrorist attacks, jihadi insurgency and domestic insurrection, to the specter of weapons of mass destruction and a nuclear Iran – is coalescing with disturbing speed into a multi-faceted menace that jeopardizes the survival of the Jewish nation-state to a degree arguably unprecedented since its inception.

Misreading the battlefield

Successive governments have consistently misread the battlefield, and misled by the seductive deception of political correctness, they have embraced misguided policy principles, wildly at odds with the dictates of political realities.

To understand this rather harsh condemnation, it is first necessary to realize that, in principle, there exist two archetypal and antithetical contexts of conflict – in the first of which a policy of compromise and concession may well be appropriate, and another, in which such a course is disastrously inappropriate.

In the first of such contexts, one’s adversary interprets any concession as a genuine conciliatory initiative, and feels obliged to respond with a counter-concession. In this context, the process will move toward some amicable resolution of the conflict by a series of concessions and counter-concessions.

In the alternate conflictual context, however, one’s adversary does not interpret concessionary initiatives as conciliatory gestures, made in good faith, but as an indication of vulnerability and weakness, made under duress, portending defeat.

Such initiatives will not elicit any reciprocal conciliatory gesture, but rather demands for further concessions.

If one concedes to the demands, instead of enjoying a convergent process that leads toward peaceable resolution of differences, a divergent process will lead either to capitulation or to large-scale violence. In other words, once one side realizes that its adversary is acting in bad faith and can only be restrained by force; or the other side realizes it has extracted all the concessions it can by non-coercive means – meaning that further gains could only be won by force – problems worsen for the party seeking bilateral satisfaction.

‘… if you will not fight when victory is sure’

If one happens to be in a situation that approximates the second context, but adopts a policy suited for the first, disaster is inevitable.

Sadly, for more than two decades, this is precisely what Israeli governments – with varying degrees of myopic zeal and/or reluctant resignation – have done. Unless robust and resolute remedial measures are undertaken without delay, such disaster is inevitable.

There can be little doubt that the Arab-Israeli conflict resembles the second context far more closely than the first. After all, every gut-wrenching concession Israel has made since the early 1990s has failed to produce any conciliatory response from its Arab adversaries. All it finds is greater intransigence and more obdurate insistence on further appeasement.

Because of excessive restraint and inadequate resolve, Israel is inexorably descending into an abysmal position, depicted with forceful eloquence by Winston Churchill, in the sober caveat he articulated in the first volume of his epic series on World War II, aptly titled The Gathering Storm.

He warned: “If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

‘… physical extinction and political elimination…’

Although many will wish to deny it, this is the situation that could well emerge for the Jews of Israel if the policy of ruinous restraint continues. If they forfeit national sovereignty, now under unprecedented international assault, while they may not become “slaves,” Israelis could well be relegated to infidel dhimmi status in their own homeland.

Israel’s past military and economic successes have been so stunning that they have obscured the true precariousness of Jewish political independence in the region.

For those who have been lulled into a false sense of complacency by highly visible signs of strength and vigor – such as mushrooming high-rises and modernistic freeways – the somber assessment of the inherent asymmetry of the conflict and the fragility of Jewish national existence made by Yigal Allon in the prestigious publication Foreign Affairs should be a salutary reminder.

Considered by many the epitome of moderate statesmanship, Allon cautioned: “… a military defeat of Israel would mean the physical extinction of a large part of its population and the political elimination of the Jewish state. … the Arab states can permit themselves a series of military defeats while Israel cannot afford to lose a single war. Nor does this reflect a [finite, hence bearable] historical trauma in any sense.

To lose a single war is to lose everything….”

Ruinous results of restraint & retreat

The bitter fruits of Israeli restraint, retreat and reticence abound in every direction and on every front.

In some cases they are close to full ripeness, in others, to less so – so far. In some cases disaster is close at hand, in others it has been avoided – or rather, delayed – more by propitious good fortune than by prudent good judgment.

In the north, the IDF’s unilateral flight, ordered by Ehud Barak in 2000, delivered South Lebanon – and abandoned Israel’s mainly Christian allies – to Hezbollah, which transformed it into a formidable arsenal of rockets that rained death and destruction on millions of Israelis for five long weeks this summer. The hesitant mismanagement of the 2006 Second Lebanese war by Ehud Olmert’s government allowed the outnumbered and out-gunned Hezbollah to claim – not implausibly – strategic victory over (or at least, non-defeat by) the IDF.

The abysmal UN Security Council Resolution 1701, ushered in by the hopelessly inept Tzipi Livni, then-foreign minister, allowed the region to become an even more menacing arsenal, bristling with tens of thousands of even more deadly missiles – and attack tunnels reportedly being excavated under the border.

It was only by the grace of God – or good fortune, depending on one’s proclivities – that, during Operation Protective Edge in Gaza earlier this year, Hezbollah was preoccupied with the civil war in Syria. Consequently, it could not open up a second front and bring the full weight of this arsenal (and those tunnels) to bear on Israel, which could have overwhelmed the protective capacity of the Iron Dome defense system.

Concessions more dangerous than ever

It would be foolhardy indeed to assume that this fortuitous circumstance is likely to reoccur in any future engagement. In fact, only 10 days after the end of Protective Edge, the IDF announced that it was “making plans and training” for “a very violent war” against Hezbollah, which, according to informed sources, had “now accumulated three years of battlefield experience, greater military capabilities and considerable confidence.”

Slightly to the east, the breathtaking barbarity of the Syrian civil war rages on, bringing the daunting prospect of a common border with Islamic State and/or al-Qaida affiliates, and underscoring how imbecilic it would have been to relinquish the Golan to the murderous Assad regime, in the forlorn hope of trading land-for-peace.

Along Israel’s eastern border, with the ascendancy of Islamist elements in Jordan, the Hashemite monarchy is looking increasingly wobbly. This tenuous situation is exacerbated by the hordes of refugees (reportedly over 600,000) fleeing the brutality in Syria, presumably infiltrated by Islamist agitators, who are placing unbearable strains on Jordan’s social and economic resources, and undermining the stability of the regime. With the possibility of the monarchy being replaced by radical Muslim elements, or even remaining as a puppet regime controlled by them, the notion of territorial concessions in Judea-Samaria, which adjoins the kingdom to the West, becomes even more dangerously delusional than before.

Vast stretch of Islamist-controlled land

Even if some flimsy deal were struck with the largely irrelevant and unrepresentative Mahmoud Abbas, the responsible assumption must be that he would be replaced, post haste, by more extremist forces such as Hamas (as per the Gaza precedent) – or worse.

Israel would be faced with the perilous prospect of a vast, unbroken stretch of Islamist-controlled territory, from the eastern approaches of Greater Tel Aviv to Jordan’s current border with Iraq, and beyond – into areas under the iron rule of Islamic State.

In Sinai as well, the outlook is bleak, with the peninsula falling under the sway of jihadist elements which the Egyptian army is finding increasingly difficult to curb.

One of the most dangerous militant groups active in Sinai, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, recently pledged allegiance to Islamic State, a link likely to afford it more money, weapons and recruits to fight the government in Cairo.

All this savagery will inevitably press on Israel’s long southern border stretching from Gaza to the Red Sea. If rocket attacks on Eilat continue, tourism to the city will cease and it will lose its principal source of income, without which its very existence is in grave doubt.

On the cusp of carnage?

As daunting as the preceding catalogue of dangers is, it is hardly an exhaustive list of the perils facing the Jewish state today. Not a word has been mentioned about the possibility of a third intifada on the part of the Palestinians in Judea-Samaria or a renewed conflagration in Gaza. Perhaps the gravest threat of all is the prospect of insurrection and revolt by the Arab citizens of Israel – if they sense weakness and vacillation on the part of the Jews.

This threat will materialize unless the Arabs are convinced the Jews will not brook any challenge – from within Israel’s borders or from without – to their national sovereignty and political independence.

After years of counterproductive concessions and compromise, it is unlikely that the situation is still retrievable by consensual means, and remedial measures will require coercive action on a wide scale.

What is called for today is not a repetition of reticent restraint, but the demonstration of ruthless resolve.

Unless the Jews convey the unequivocal message that any such challenge to their sovereignty will be met with overwhelming lethal force, they will increasingly be the victims of such force at the hands of their Arab adversaries.

FATAH WARLORD ABBAS OPENLY CALLS FOR THE MURDER OF ANY AND ALL ISRAELIS

Stabbings in Israel. Talk Radio Europe is silent. Calls Israel Apartheid!

Well this much is for sure. The play-acting is no more and Mahmoud Abbas isn’t even pretending to be a “peace partner.” He’s gone rogue.

These days this Fatah warlord openly calls for the murder of any and all Israelis and the Jewish blood that’s been spilled from Jerusalem onward — men, women, 3-month-old babies – places him at the heart and center of the reign of terror now being inflicted upon the Jewish State.

His PA (Palestinian Authority) gangs heed him word for word when he demands Jewish blood “by any means.”

by Jack Engelhard

(Jack Engelhard writes a regular column for Arutz Sheva. Engelhard wrote the int’l bestseller Indecent Proposal that was translated into more than 22 languages and turned into a Paramount motion picture starring Robert Redford and Demi Moore)

At the same time a Jewish owned radio station “Talk Radio Europe” has David Icke associate Richie Allen on their station

Richie Allen calls Israel Apartheid. Says Israel carpet bombed Gaza. Has had on TOTAL ANTISEMITE Gilad Atzmon. Is most friendly with Ken O’Keefe (KOK)

Remember he does this on a radio station owned by Jewish person Martin Nathan. The David Icke associate is short of money, launches a crowd funder last night at 9 oclock and the very first person to ring in to offer money to Icke’s associate is Jack Nusbaun, prominent American Jew in Spain who talks endlessly of his war in the Pacific (yes he is old all right)

9 KEY TAKEAWAYS CONCENTRATING ON HAMAS, TAKEN STRAIGHT FROM ITS CHARTER

We Trotskyists of 4international. Very supportive of Israel. Insist that Fatah and Hamas have roots in the Antisemitism of Hitler and Hajj Amin el Husseini. Husseini a founder of the Musmim Brotherhood. Roots of “Palestinianism” lie in the Holocaust of the Jews. The Holocaust was the coming together of the Islam of the Koran and Fascism. A frightening mix which is being threatened today again on many fronts. We wish to explore those fronts…please help our work…

The source of this article is an excellent site http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/15942. I feel that the remarks by Jamie Weinstein are very relevant. The article by Jamie Weinstein was introduced by a freelance writer Victor Sharp (additional note at end) to whom I am grateful. As always we on 4international look at these things in a practical manner and involves how can we solve this question of leadership

(start article here)

In an article in The Daily Caller blog,  Jamie Weinstein exposes the Hamas Charter. He writes:

“Hamas was founded in December 1987. In August 1988, it issued a covenant outlining its mission. The covenant has never been renounced by Hamas, even though some try to claim it is now merely a historical artifact.

“Here are nine key takeaways concentrating on Hamas, taken straight from its charter.”

1.) Hamas isn’t looking to negotiate a peace deal with Israel. It wants to destroy Israel. Quoting Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna, the charter reads:

“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.”

2.) Actually, Hamas’ charter goes beyond destroying Israel. It longs for Jewish genocide:

“The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: ‘The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.’”

3.) Hamas makes it clear in its charter that it doesn’t believe in peace conferences. As its charter states:

“Initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences, are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement.”

4.) Unsurprisingly for an organization that supports Jewish genocide, Hamas’ charter is explicitly anti-Semitic. For instance, Hamas’ charter claims Jews – not just Israelis – are responsible for all wars:

“There is no war going on anywhere, without having their finger in it.”

5.) And all revolutions:

“They were behind the French Revolution, the Communist revolution and most of the revolutions we heard and hear about, here and there. With their money they formed secret societies, such as Freemasons, Rotary Clubs, the Lions and others in different parts of the world for the purpose of sabotaging societies and achieving Zionist interests.”

6.) And they also control media:

“For a long time, the enemies have been planning, skillfully and with precision, for the achievement of what they have attained. They took into consideration the causes affecting the current of events. They strived to amass great and substantive material wealth which they devoted to the realization of their dream. With their money, they took control of the world media, news agencies, the press, publishing houses, broadcasting stations, and others.”

7.) According to its charter, Hamas favors violent jihad:

“There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.”

8.) Hamas shares the Muslim Brotherhood’s enthusiasm for “death for the sake of Allah:”

“Allah is its target, the Prophet is its model, the Koran its constitution: Jihad is its path and death for the sake of Allah is the loftiest of its wishes.”

9.) Hamas accuses Israel of being like Nazis in its charter. For instance, there’s this:

“The society that confronts a vicious enemy which acts in a way similar to Nazism, making no differentiation between man and woman, between children and old people  such a society is entitled to this Islamic spirit.”

Unfortunately a previous Israeli government allowed Hamas to gain strength in the territories, seeing it as a useful counter to Fatah. This was yet another mistake, which has come back to haunt the Jewish state.

It may be too late. The damage may be too severe but, better late than never, I believe it is incumbent upon a more nuanced and hopefully more effective Israeli public relations campaign to be launched quoting again and again the horrific clauses in the genocidal Hamas charter along with the poisonous words spewing from the PA’s media and from Abbas himself.

Show the vile Hamas Charter and quote the evil words of Abbas to all who hector and pressure Israel.
These should be offered relentlessly to all international leaders and media outlets so that all will see the absurdity and utter moral bankruptcy of negotiating with such a genocidal Palestinian partner; one which includes Hamas as part and parcel of the so-called Palestinian Authority whose leader, Mahmoud Abbas, utterly rejects recognizing Israel as the state of the Jews and demands that all ‘Palestinian territory’ be judenrein (free of Jews).

Who would still demand that Israel negotiate with such an inhuman entity? Outrageously, the Obama Administration, the EU, the UN, and so many misguided liberal Jews, like the notorious J-Street, still demand that Israel essentially commit national suicide.

Why, pray tell me, must we always witness Israeli leaders, year after year, tremulously refraining from forcefully rejecting the fraudulent charge of Israel being in occupation of ‘Palestinian’ land; a monumental lie that oozes from the very depths of Jew hatred, flies in the face of biblical and post-biblical Jewish history, and makes the very angels in heaven weep.

And why, oh why, must we have to squirm in embarrassment as an Israeli Prime Minister is forced by the present hostile incumbent in the White House to apologize to the Turkish Islamist thug, Recip Tayip Erdogan.

So show the vile Hamas Charter and quote the evil words of Abbas to all who hector and pressure Israel. If they do not come to their senses and recant, they would at least be seen as the immoral enemies of Israel; the Jewish state reconstituted now in its biblical and ancestral homeland.

It seems that the famous aphorism by Abba Eban that, “the Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity,” has become a recurring problem for the Jewish state.

So stop apologizing when it is the Arabs, those who call themselves Palestinians, who have most to apologize for.

Peace Partner? Abbas’s Fatah Demands More Car Terror Attacks

‘Moderate’ Fatah issues spate of cartoons and images calling for more terrorism against Jews; ‘run over the foreign settler!’

Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah movement, still held up as a “moderate” counterbalance to Hamas by many in the world, is actively calling for car terrorist attacks after a recent spate of three such attacks in the last two weeks.

The flurry of Fatah Facebook activity urging more attacks ramming cars into Jews was exposed and translated by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW).

After a Hamas terrorist murdered a Border Patrol officer and wounded many others with his car in Jerusalem on Wednesday, and later another Arab driver ran into three soldiers, Fatah on Thursday posted numerous cartoons and images to its page calling for more such attacks.

One cartoon was titled “the run over organization,” using a play of words on the Arabic da’es meaning “run over” and Da’esh, the Arabic acronym for Islamic State (ISIS). In the cartoon, Fatah urges “hit the gas at 199 (kmh, 125 mph – ed.) for Al-Aqsa.”

A crossed-over traffic sign reads “Al-Aqsa,” hinting at the ban on Jewish entry to the Temple Mount by the Jordanian Waqf (Islamic trust) that is in de facto control of the holiest site in Judaism.

Another Fatah post on Thursday reads simply “run over, friend, run over the foreign settler!”

Indeed numerous terrorist websites, including that of Hamas, have been touting a “car intifada” in the wake of the Wednesday attacks.

In yet another post from Wednesday, a picture of former PA Chairman Yasser Arafat shouting was subtitled “the Jews are defiling Al-Aqsa – will you not rage?”

Fatah uses Arafat to call for terror Palestinian Media Watch

PMW has documented how Abbas last month, just weeks before the recent series of lethal attacks, called to prevent Jews “defiling” the Temple Mount by “all means necessary,” in an uncanny echo of Arafat’s call for the 2000 Second Intifada. Abbas’s call for terror was given heavy rotation on official PA TV.

Another post on Fatah’s official Facebook page Thursday showed a man shooting an assault rifle on the ground with the words “restore your glory.”

Fatah picture Palestinian Media Watch

The incessant urging of terror was not only found on Fatah’s main Facebook page; “The National Liberation Movement – Fatah” page also got into the terror action on Thursday, showing a cartoon of a car with Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) flag colors trying to ram three fleeing Jews.

The text under the cartoon reads “#Da’es (“run over” – ed.) – a new hashtag.”

Fatah terror call Palestinian Media Watch

“May Allah protect the heroes,” the same page wrote in another post Thursday, praising an alleged stabbing that was reported in the frequently fictitious Arab media.

“Reports of a stabbing of a Zionist security guard and taking of his weapon in North Jerusalem. May Allah protect the heroes. #Palestine_resists,” the page bragged.

The same Fatah page also on Thursday posted a short video of Arab riots on the Temple Mount, writing “and they ask why we run them over!” The convoluted logic appears to be justifying the terror attacks in recent weeks with the Arab violence on the holiest site in Judaism.

CRUEL ANTISEMITIC ATTACK ON JEWISH MEMORIAL IN LISBON

Lisbon Jews Demand Protection After ‘Ebola’ Desecration

The Lisbon Jewish community is demanding extra protection after the desecration of a memorial to Jews murdered in massacre.

The Lisbon Jewish community is demanding extra protection and quick police action to find the perpetrators of what they said was a hate crime, when unknown vandals drew the world “ebola” on a memorial to martyred victims of a massacre in Portugal in 1506.

Besides increased patrols, community leaders called for the placing of security cameras at the memorial, considered one of the most prominent Jewish presences in the country.

The 1506 massacre constituted the end of Jewish life in Portugal for hundreds of years – until, in fact, 2013, when a new synagogue and Jewish community center was opened in Lisbon. The center was build at the behest of the Shavei Israel organization to reach out to the several thousand Jews who live in Portugal – as well as to the hundreds of thousands who have traditions of Jewish roots in their families, with many carrying on Jewish customs such as lighting Friday night candles, customs their ancestors hundreds of years ago to remind their descendants that although they were forcible converted to Christianity, they were still Jews.

The Jews of Portugal, like their Spanish neighbors, were expelled in 1492, but like in Spain, many Jews remained behind, “converting” to Christianity for public consumption while remaining Jews in their homes. These people, known as conversos, were the bane of the Church, which sought to stamp them out – setting up the Inquisition, which killed many former Jews accused of “backsliding” to Judaism. Church spies were everywhere, and Jews who were found carrying out Jewish customs – or not appearing Christian “enough” – were mercilessly executed by Church officials.

In Portugal, the Inquisition also thoroughly tracked down Jews, and in the Spring of 1506, Church spies discovered a group that had purchased what appeared to be supplies for Passover. The Jews were arrested, but released several days later – to the hands of a priest-incited mob, which called for their blood. Mobs marched through the streets, killing and murdering conversos, as well as Christians suspected of supporting them. At the end of the three day massacre some 4,000 conversos and “Old Christians” had been murdered, and there were no Jews – loyal or “backsliding” – to be found in the city, a situation that prevailed for hundreds of years, until the years before World War II, when European Jews, seeking to escape from the grip of the Nazis, tentatively took up residence in Portugal.

The Jewish community commemorated the massacre in 2006, on the its 500th anniversary. The memorial was unveiled at that ceremony.

MORE DETAILS OF THIS MASSACRE OF JEWS

Inauguration of a memorial to the Jewish victims of the 1506 massacre in Lisbon

“Among these were two Dominican friars, who went through the city of Lisbon with crucifixes on their shoulders, inciting the people…they attacked the weak and defenseless group of ill-baptized New Christians with spears and unsheathed swords. They killed four thousand of them, robbed them..they maimed them, dashed children against walls and disembered them, defiled women and girls and then killed them. They threw many pregnant women out of windows onto spearpoints awaiting them below…”

Consolation for the Tribulations of Israel, by Samuel Usque, 1553, Ferrara (translated from the Portuguese by Martin A. Cohen, Jewish Publication Society of America, 5737-1977 (Ladina))

The Massacre, from EJP:
“Historians estimate that between 2,000 and 4,000 “New Christians” – Jews who were forced by the state to convert in 1496 – were thrown into pyres set up across the city centre before authorities regained control of the Portuguese capital.
The violence erupted on April 19, 1506 after a man believed to be a “New Christian” suggested that a light emanating from a crucifix at a chapel was likely caused by natural causes instead of divine intervention as thought by many Christians.
He was dragged from the church by a group of women who beat him to death, according to several historical accounts.
A priest then made a fiery sermon against “New Christians” while two other priests, crucifix in hand, marched through the cobblestoned streets of Lisbon inciting people to kill them.
In the ensuing violence even Catholics who were thought to look like “New Chistians” were killed or saw their homes destroyed.
King Manuel, who was outside of the Portuguese capital when the massacre began, ordered the ringleaders rounded up and hung while those convicted of murder or pillage received various corporal punishments.
When the king forced the Jews to become Christians, many of them decided to leave the country, including a number of highly educated people, such as the astronomer and mathematician Abraão Zacuto, who went to Turkey, and Baruch Espinosa’s (Spinoza) parents, who went to Holland.
The massacre highlights the growing unease in Portugal at the time with “New Christians.” Spain had launched its Inquisition in 1492 which aimed to expel or forcibly convert to Christianity all Jews and other non-believers, prompting thousands to cross the border into Portugal where they sought shelter.
But nearly five decades later Portugal launched its own Inquisition which led hundreds of Jews to be tortured or burned at the stake in the 16th and early 17th century after being accused by church tribunals of being heretics.
The forced conversion of Jews together with the Inquisition drastically reduced the number of Jews in Portugal, leading the memory of the “Lisbon massacre” as it has come to be known to fade.
“Since Jewish culture practically disappeared from the country, there was no one to evoke the memory of the massacre,” author Richard Zimmler, who has written novels set against the purge of Jews in Portugal, said in an interview published in daily newspaper Público last Sunday. Some historians estimate that 20 percent of Portugal’s population, or 200,000 people at that time, before the start of the Inquisition were Jewish.
Many were successful traders and scientists whose international visibility made the term “Portuguese” be synonymous with “Jew” at the time.
Today there are just some 3,000 Jews in Portugal, a nation of just over 10 million people. Most are concentrated in Lisbon and the majority came to the country after Portugal’s Inquisition was officially abolished in 1821.”

ISRAEL AND EGYPT (EL SISI) MUST FORM A CLOSE AND UNITED FRONT AGAINST HAMAS AND THE PA

I have been campaigning on my blog http://www.4international.me on the need for Israel to be united with El Sisi against Hamas and The Muslim Brotherhood. It is vital that this is done out in the open. That it is not in any way under the table out of fear of upsetting Obama and the EU Antisemites. It is precisely to challenge Obama and the EU Antisemites that this is done out in the open, a clear advance to El Sisi, to offer el Sisi total support and defence against Obama and the EU Antisemites, without any abiguity. On the basis that el Sisi represents a secular forcé (relatively speaking) in Egypt as opposed to the very dangerous and Fascist Muslim Brotherhood.

In calling for this I have not really got any illusions in the present clique who rule in Israel, whoever they are. At present it is Netanyahu. Netanyahu made no call whatsoever to defend Mubarak, nor did he make a call to defend Gadhafi, which was absolutely vital to do.

This is the essence of the United Front as proposed by Lenin and Leon Trotsky, in slightly different historical situations and conditions it is true, but the basic principles remain the same. Belman wrote back to me saying he wanted nothing to do with “Communism”. But the principles of the United Front Belman remained totally ignorant of. He closed his mind and learned nothing. An Alliance with el Sisi does not imply for one second that Israel should surrender its Independence or its right to be critical of el Sisi on any issue. The United Front Belman could ever grasp means the opposite. It is a strengthening of Independence.
